Website Monitoring Report Cards are secured by several means (discussed
below), and unless specifically exposed by the service owner,
are unavailable to the general public. In order to make reports
accessible outside of Dotcom-Monitor service, the service owner
must "enable" the report. |
 |
Access:
|
 |
Once the web site monitoring report is enabled, it is assigned a
global unique identifier (GUID) like such as "B5BB0BEEA67E47648F27B5F634EDD75C".
This randomized GUID makes it virtually impossible to find a
report, unless it is specifically shared or published where
it can be viewed. |
There are two types of website monitoring and network monitoring reports available:
"Dashboard
Report Card" |
 |
also known as a "Brief Report" provides an
easy overview of all the devices you monitor. Click
here for an example. The report shows the time when the
device was last monitored, location that last performed last
the check and the status of the device. If a failure in the
device is detected, the failure will be displayed in red at
the top of the report.
Usage: The report page self-refreshes every 30 seconds
and can run constantly in the background if you so choose. This
report card is primarily used by system operators or network
administrators in order to monitor the status of their infrastructure
on one simple screen. Also, it is nice link to have to check
overall health of the system in case of alert. |
 |
"Detailed Report"
|
 |
provides summary information about a specific device.
for an example. Each report can be configured
to display the following items: Uptime/Downtime charts and
numbers, performance data, and historical information
based on daily, weekly and monthly intervals. Click
here for a screenshot. These reports are often placed in
a publicly viewable area of a web site, in order to demonstrate
to end users that your website(s) receives monitoring by an independent
third party. These reports let you demonstrate the reliability
of your website and service uptime and performance. The result
is added your end users value your service more and view it
as credible and reliable.
Usage: Specifically for an independent Service Provider
(ISP) the publicly viewable "Detailed Report" it can
be placed along with your Control Panel and in order to show
customers the actual website uptime as calculated by an independent
third party monitoring service. |
