Friday, August 2, 2013 – Major web hosting company Bluehost has suffered a global network outage, affecting thousands of websites and customers worldwide.
Bluehost Down – Global Network Outage
At around 9AM EST, websites hosted with Bluehost began dropping offline. The problems escalated, and an hour later, Bluehost addressed the issue officially via Twitter stating: “There was an unexpected issue while we were performing maintenance on our network. Your account available in next few minutes.” Since then there has been a flood of tweets from frustrated customers as their sites went down and have remained offline since. Bluehost is continually responding to customers reassuring them that “we resolving issues as quickly as we can.” Other Bluehost tweets read, “we are aware of issues network wide!” and “we are continuing to diagnose issues”. The chatter is constant, growing every few seconds. (catch the “Bluehost down” twitter stream here)
Current Dotcom-Monitor website monitoring tests show Bluehost’s own website to be down, worldwide. Several Dotcom-Monitor client websites were affected by this network outage.
There is media speculation that Bluehost suffered a massive DDoS attack, but this has not been confirmed at this time.
