Mobile Browsers and Manual Script Editing Now Available

Monitor Websites with Mobile Browser Scripts

UserView Scripts now support over 40 different mobile device browsers including:

[table “” not found /]

This new feature emulates the individual browsers by changing the user agent, the screen size, the display resolution and pixel ratio, and a mobile pointer replaces the mouse icon with touch emulation.

With the addition of these mobile browsers, UserView can now walk through complex scripts to log in to websites, test shopping carts and interact with rich content such as asynchronous technologies like AJAX, emulating the mobile device selected.

EveryStep simulates all of these different browsers by using the mobile emulation built into the Google Chrome DevTools.  This powerful feature lets you quickly and easily see how your website responds in the different browsers without the need for access to each type of physical device.

As mobile browsers continue to increase their presence as the dominant player in the web browser industry, it is important to be testing and monitoring your web application using a variety of different browsers to ensure that your end users are receiving the best experience possible regardless of which device or which browser they are using. This is particularly essential as mobile website performance takes priority in Google rankings over desktop, as per the latest update.

Free-Form Script Editing

A long requested feature is now available that allows you to edit anything you want in the scripting tool.  Once you have recorded a script in EveryStep, you simply click in the script window and start editing by hand. The right click menu to automatically add certain tasks to a script is still available as well.  The most common use for inline editing of a script will be to add, update or change text in URLs, keywords, or values entered into fields.  You can also enter the wildcard character * to represent all variations of the url or word (like http://example.com/*).  Another great feature of the inline editing is the ability to select a line and delete it from the script.

Finally, while we only recommend adding new lines to a script if you are an advanced user familiar with C#, you can add a new line by navigating the cursor to the end of a line and hit enter to create a new line below.  From here you can theoretically add any code that is accepted by C# as well as any of the original commands available in the scripting tool.

One important thing to note is when a script is manually edited by adding new code, and the script is uploaded to the Dotcom-Monitor cloud- the script must go through an approval process by the Dotcom-Monitor support team before it is activated.  This ensures accidental errors or malicious scripts will not harm the system or our users.
