The UserView Monitoring™ Platform is an active "user experience" monitoring solution that replicates a user's browser interactions with website applications and online transactions such as shopping carts, logins processes, banking applications etc.
The UserView Monitoring™ Platform simulates a "user's steps" by first recording a typical user's browser interactions, or "steps" - mouse clicks, page navigations, hovering, typing text, etc. - within a website or web application. UserView Monitoring™ scripts run inside Internet Explorer browser (IE8) and can simulate any IE8-browser action performed by a user.
The proprietary EveryStep™ Macro Recorder s a free, downloadable tool provided to automate the pre-recording of a typical user's browser interactions. In order to set-up a monitoring scenario of a typical user's path through a web application, simply launch the EveryStep™ Macro Recorder and go through "every step" of the path with clicks and hovers etc... The EveryStep™ Macro Recorder records each browser interaction, which can easily be reviewed and replayed for confirmation, before uploading to a Dotcom-Monitor account where final alerting and reporting options are configured. When the set-up is finalized (typically under 10 minutes) active monitoring starts immediately.
As UserView Monitoring™ steps through the pre-recorded browser interactions it checks every page for proper content, missing elements, performance, and potential application or networking issues. Specifically, monitoring includes checks for errors, such as: HTTP 500 and 404 codes, as well as connectivity problems with the server, network, or DNS. Additionally, at each step in the monitored scenario performance data is collected, such as: response times for each page element, browser rendering times, time it takes for a user to enter information, and more. If an error is detected at any step in the monitored scenario, then an error alert (via email, SMS, phone, pager, or SNMP trap) is sent. Also, an automatic network traceroute and a snapshot of the HTML error is captured and immediately sent via email to assist with troubleshooting.
All of the monitored data is available via multiple reporting formats (real-time online charts/text, scheduled email, .CSV, real-time dashboard, XML feed) for evaluation, analysis, presentations, and SLA management.
UserView Monitoring™ agents are positioned worldwide, covering a majority of the major Internet backbones and peering exchanges. All monitoring locations are included standard; however users can enable or disable specific monitoring agent locations as required.
Pricing is based on two factors: the total number of all monitored steps in all the monitored scenarios within an account and the frequency of monitoring (ex. 1-minute, 3,5,10, 15-minute). For example, an account owner monitoring three separate UserView Monitoring™ scenarios, including: a log-in w/4 steps; a shopping cart w/ 8 steps; and an application w/ 6 steps = a total number of 14 steps, at a 5-minute frequency. Dotcom-Monitor's package pricing model is based on volume discounts and in this case a "Premium II" package w/ up to 20 tasks at a 5-minute frequency is most cost-effective.
